Andrew McManus walks free over suitcase full of cash

On 8 September 2015, our client, a high-profile music promoter, was charged with the following offences:

  • Perverting the course of justice, contrary to section 319 of the Crimes Act 1900;
  • Make statement with the intention of obtaining a financial advantage, contrary to section 192G of the Crimes Act 1900 (x 2); and
  • Knowingly participate in a criminal group, contrary to section 93T(1A) of the Crimes Act 1900.

Shortly after his release on bail, Hanna Legal successfully applied for the variation of his bail conditions so that he could travel to New Zealand with an American band whose tour he was organising. For more information, see: Promoter Andrew McManus has had his passport returned to go to NSW with KISS, Sydney Morning Herald, 29 September 2015.

Hanna Legal engaged in successful plea negotiations with the DPP, leading to all but one of our client’s charges being withdrawn.

In March 2017, we represented at our client at his sentence hearing, where we successfully argued that he should not be sentenced to full-time imprisonment but rather be allowed to remain in the community on an Intensive Corrections Order.
