Buff drug importer has years shaved off sentence

In 2020, our client approached us to represent him in relation to an appeal against a sentence that he had received for attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, being 200 kilograms of MDMA.

He had been sentenced in the Sydney District Court in late-2019 to 21 years imprisonment, with a non-parole period of 14 years.

Hanna Legal filed an appeal in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal on our client’s behalf and instructed April Francis at the hearing of the appeal in February 2022.

On 3 June 2022, the Court of Criminal Appeal handed down its decision.  It allowed the appeal, reducing his head sentence from 21 to 18 years and his non-parole period from 14 to 12 years.
