Convicted killer Emad Sleiman escapes jail after lying to Crime Commission investigators

In July 2018, our client was arrested and charged with multiple offences, namely:

  • Knowingly give false or misleading evidence at the Crime Commission, contrary to section 27(1) of the Crime Commission Act 2012 (x 9); and
  • Make publication in contravention of direction, contrary to section 45(3) of the Crime Commission Act 2012.

The offences were committed in relation to an investigation by the NSW Crime Commission into the murder of bikie associate Kemel “Blackie” Barakat and related shootings.

Hanna Legal engaged in negotiations with the prosecution, which resulted in most of the charges against our client being withdrawn.

Our criminal lawyers represented Mr. Sleiman at his sentence proceedings, where it was successfully argued on his behalf that he should not be sentenced to full-time imprisonment but rather that he remain in the community subject to an Intensive Corrections Order.
