In June 2017, Hanna Legal represented the former NSW Minister for Mineral Resources, Eddie Obeid, in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal in relation to the appeal against his conviction for the common law offence of misconduct in public office.
For more information, see: ‘No duty’ to act in public interest, Eddie Obeid’s lawyers tell court, Sydney Morning Herald, 5 June 2017.
Although unsuccessful, the appeal dealt with a number of issues of public interest, including, the duty owed by Members of Parliament to the electorate and whether Parliament has exclusive jurisdiction to deal with such criminal conduct.
