Shayda Ibrahim settles wrongful arrest and false imprisonment lawsuit against NSW Police

On 12 July 2010, our client was arrested and charged with conspiracy to murder, an offence which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment.

Hanna Legal made representations on her behalf to the Director of Public Prosecutions, leading to the withdrawal of the charge in September 2010.

Hanna Legal subsequently commenced civil proceedings against the police, claiming damages for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution.

In October 2014, the parties entered into a confidential deed to settle the proceedings.

In an article published in the Daily Telegraph about the settlement, the following excerpt appeared:

“Details of the settlement have been hidden behind a strict confidentiality agreement, but we’re told she’s pleased with it.

“Her lawyer Nick Hanna said: ‘My client is happy with the outcome and now looks forward to putting this chapter behind her.’”
