Sydney cocaine dealer Sarah Rutherford to serve sentence in community

In 2020, our client was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), contrary to section 25(2) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (“DMT Act”);
  • Supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), contrary to section 25(1) of the DMT Act(x 3); and
  • Supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, contrary to section 25A of the DMT Act.

On 14 May 2020, Hanna Legal made a release application on behalf of our client in the Supreme Court of NSW.  The application was successful and our client was released on conditional bail.  For more information, see: EXCLUSIVE: Inside the ‘secret double life’ of glamorous pet clothing saleswoman, 30, accused of directing a cocaine empire while selling Givenchy hoodies for dogs, Daily Mail, 14 May 2020.

Our criminal lawyers subsequently engaged in successful charge negotiations with the prosecution, resulting in our client pleading guilty to only two charges and on the basis of favourable facts.

Hanna Legal represented our client at her sentence proceedings at the Sydney District Court, where we successfully argued that she be subjected to an Intensive Corrections Order and not be sent to prison.
