Community Correction Order for man charged in relation to $2.1 million fraud

In May 2023, our client was charged with dealing with property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime, contrary to section 193C(1) of the Crimes Act 1900.

His role was to have received in excess of $100,000, which was part of approximately $2.1 million that had been defrauded from a man as part of a scam involving the investment in fake corporate and treasury bonds.

One of our criminal lawyers negotiated the facts sheet with the police so as to reduce our client’s role.

In August 2023, we appeared as advocate at our client’s sentence hearing at the Downing Centre Local Court.  There, we successfully persuaded the Court that a sentence of imprisonment was not required and that the appropriate penalty was placing our client on a community correction order for a period of 2 years.
